Today was an interesting day at work. I have been a nurse now for about 20 years and the things I have seen and witnessed over the years have … well sometimes made me speechless.
I cared for a patient today that had heart failure and sepsis. Let me explain… sepsis is basically a fancy word for an infection in the blood.
Labs revealed that this patient had an infection called “staph”. This unfortunate patient had had a dental procedure done 3 days earlier and she didn’t start on any antibiotics. What made matters worse was the fact that she had no dental insurance and therefore she couldnt go back to her dentist for follow up.
This brings me to the gist of my post.
The lack of Dental and Health Insurance in this country is nothing short of a scandal.
